My shutdown buttom seem to stop working after other changes to GNOME

Hi 

I am having problems shutting down my computer by using the shutdown buttom
under main in gnome.

everytime i remove session from
~/.gnome/session
it works again
however all other aplets are removed...

what am I doing wrong?
is there a bug i should know about?
