can't beagle use hal for this? it will get a notice via dbus about
battery status change and won't have to poll for it.

It can. Nobody has sent a patch yet (hint hint). Doing some <.1 sec
work every 30 sec
isn't that bad, so instead of a cooked up a hack, a completely managed
(c#) solution would be wonderful. With the managed dbus bindings
looking better these days, someday this will happen.
