Run it on the samba share again, and when it seems to block, do a "ps
ax" to see if the process is stuck in the D state, or otherwise just
stopped (probably the S state, or perhaps R).

Also, running it in the foreground (--fg), try sending it SIGQUIT and
paste the output into an email.
