Jim & Christopher,
Cheese does support this, the feature is called "Photo burst mode". The
number of pictures, and the delay between them can be configured in the
Preferences dialog. The Preferences dialog, under gnome-shell, is
available by clicking on the cheese icon to right of the "Activities" on
the top bar. I'm sure there are technical names for each of these
things, but it's a Friday evening of a long week.

Yes, I will second this request. I was surprised it wasn't already there

Hi, I just have a simple feature request: auto-snap. It would be nice to
be able to set it so that it automatically takes a picture every so often
(30 seconds, etc.) and then saves these pictures to a specified location.
This would be helpful in many circumstances, including time-lapse videos,
etc. Thanks! - Christopher
