Please don't take this as hostility. I'm just commenting on a trend I
believe is really bad for Open Source as a whole. I'm not asking you to
do anything at all, except to take just a moment to hear me out.
I wrote a series of articles regarding the hidden costs of refusing to
support (as in, refusing to "backport") new applications to the more
stable distros. While I targeted the term "rolling release" it's more
about a fundamental philosophy about development which guarantees Linux
and Open Source will never be adopted by the masses.
Those articles were on my blog (jehurst.wordpress.com) and a couple were
picked up for Open for Business (see sig below). The debate was
interesting, and maybe some developers or projects will find it
worthwhile to consider doing things a little differently, if they decide
mass adoption is a part of what they hope to gain.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my request for assistance, even if
it amounts to "no." I accept the possibility it simply can't be done
reasonably.
