Problem with buildbot and irc

Another quick question about gnome's build-bot:)

I am having trouble connecting from IRC. I am getting

'exceptions.TypeError: Data must not be unicode'

when passing messages from irc to buildbot.  Is this something you
have come across?

I see related bug filed against twisted from back in 2006:(  Seems you
guy have gotten it to work.
