this 'fix' is what broke the normal, expected use of cd/dvd drives for many people
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/420841
What has also been confirmed is that reverting brasero,
libbrasero-media0 back to 2.27.92 restores proper use of the cd/dvd
drives and at the same time gksu nautilus remains operational
as noted here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/439846
-----------------------------
I've found some more news on this, and they look good:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/devicekit-disks/+bug/438065
I really hope that it's true what can be read there, so the bug will be fixed soon! But I still wonder how Doug (from my bug report) solved that problem by downgrading brasero...

I know that bug. There are similar bugs where people complain about rhythmbox and totem not being able to play audio cds. However, sound juicer is able to play AND rip them, xine too. And when I insert an audio cd, it is properly recognized and a dialogue opens up asking me what to do with it, so everything works perfectly regarding audio CDs. That doesn't mean that these bugs are not related, but their 'symptoms' are different, especially because sound juicer works for me what shouldn't be the case if it's indeed a gvfs problem...
Do you only have problems with audio CDs? Are data CDs working correctly on your system?

Did you see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/395470?
May be related.
