Ideas for Summer of Code

Why Brasero?

- I am new to Linux and use Ubuntu, as do lots of my other friends. We burn CDs and DVDs almost everyday to exchange stuff. I will try to aim at common problems which I face everyday. Features I really wished would be there. What better than implementing themselves..

Features (proposed, but not limited to):

- NRG Support:

Without doubt, Nero is the standard image format for Windows format. Currently Brasero cannot handle NRG file. I can implement that. Whether directly or using NRG to ISO converter. I don't think problems of licensing should apply considering it is a free software for personal use.

- Mount:

No support exists for mounting images. An image mount tool would be really wonderful. Work can be done on, it would make the software complete. (I might face some difficulty in this, since I am not clear with the Linux internals of HAL etc.)

- GUI, 1 Click CD Copy

The GUI can be improved. Currently Brasero uses what is the 'Classic' mode in Nero. If you did a survery (I did), you would find that nobody uses that. The 'Express' mode is highly preferred cause of the ease of use it offers. I can tailor make it to an easy to use GUI which makes use of the 'Express' mode as of Nero, thus enabling even novice users to freely use it.

Another thing that would be wonderful (and part of the GUI) is to implement a 1 Click CD Copy and Burn system. The user just needs to insert the CD/ DVD he wants to copy and press the 1 Click Copy thing and automatically the image will be created and then burnt in the next step. This can save a lot of time.

Why me?

- I can code in C (though not that great, but after all this is a learning experience. I have done college projects in C). I am good at designing Graphical User Interfaces. And I am a hard worker. Plus I am available all summer. :)

Clarifications if any, I am ready to answer to my best. You can be assured of my single minded dedication to this. I face these problems everyday.
