I've recently published an experimental 2.4.1 release for OS X, would be nice if you try that, too: https://live.gnome.org/SummerOfCode2012/Projects/TimoDoerr_Banshee_MacOSX#Get_latest_pre-build_alpha_.app-Bundle_for_Mac

If you want to import media from usb drives or network shares on OS X, select from the Menu: Media -> Import Media -> Local folder. In the File-Open Dialog, select "File system" in the left pane, and then "Volumes" in the right (filesystem) pane. Inside the "Volumes" folder you should see all external drives, your CD drive, and network shares. You can then select any of them for adding (or choose subfolders from them).
