I have a large (114GB) music collection, collected over the years and stored
on NAS. Having just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 using Rythmbox and having
some spare time on my hands I thought I'd get some of my collection in
order. The music is organised into various categories
/music/category/artist/album_name/ where category divides things up into
styles like Classical, Reggae, Soundtracks, French, and a ubiquitous
"General" category
There are 5 or 6 computers attached to the network, all running
linux/banshee and reasonably in step with each other. 2 of them have the
full set of categories on, one is my main PC, the other is connected to the
Hi Fi, the others have various usages and a subset of categories on. There
could be an update to the metadata (scoring and/or track and artist info)
from any one of the PCs, but probably only from 3 of the machines. I have
seen some options in edit>preferences which seem to write metadata and
scores to files but cannot find anything in the user guide on how to exploit
these.
Is there a way to sync (and merge) the metadata from each of the machines so
I'm not rewriting it on every machine, depending on the size of the files
can this be done using the preferences by writing back to the NAS or using
something such as dropbox to keep them synced.
