I implemented the extension because I have come across the request a
couple of times. It is, at the moment, specifically aimed at those
purposes, speaking: the BUTT program, but I thought it was a nice
extension for any easy scripting as there is no need for any advanced
technology, so even an average shell scripter could use it.

I find the /tmp directory not feasible as there might be more than one
user running banshee on a machine.

AFAIK there is a d-bus interface publishing the song info, but as said
above, I consider that "advanced" technology.

What do you mean by including cover art? As URL? I could think of
making the extension configurable, namely chosing the file location
and name as well as the information/format of the text file. That
would make this simple extension somewhat bigger, but I assume that it
is not so much of an effort to achieve this.
