For the moment may I recommend keeping 1 or 2 of the previous backups as if oneday you start banshee and on the previous close the database was corrupted and backed up in that state it would not be good, having two corrupted backups.
Also, is there a reason you are not keeping file data in the tags? Not that there is anything wrong with not, it does provide some added redundancy. I personally do not keep playcounts etc in tags because I am a fan of the write once properly, then leave the file alone school of though for my media.

I think Olivier is working on a way to automatically backup the db on
shutdown to workaround db corruption issues so Banshee itself should
soon be doing better in this regard.. hopefully.
