Re: [Banshee-List] Raising awareness for a specific bug

Hi list,

I recently discovered a potential misbehaviour of Banshee and reported a bug
about it. Because I think this is a very small bug and could be fixed very
easily, I would like to raise the awareness for this specific bug [1].

Now what's the bug about?
If you have the Library Watcher feature activated and copy a new MP3 file
into your Music folder (~/Music e.g.) while banshee is open, the library
watcher seems to corrupt the ID3 tags. The mp3 file immediately shows up in
the library but without any ID3 tags.
Even if the copy progress is done and a rescan of the library, too, the ID3
tags are missing. They don't show up anymore and every other program does
not find any meta tags, too.

My suspicion is that Banshee does not "wait" till no file handle is open
anymore on this file and tries to import it to early.

I filed this bug with severity Critical because you don't really notice this
behaviour. It's very hidden and I couldn't put my finger on it for a long
time, as I noticed missing ID3 tags several times.

I hope, you find the time to look into the bug report or even the banshee
logic. It would be great!

The bug report is very nicely detailed but it could be improved if you added a Debug Log of the issue.

Kind regards,
David
