Won't banshee just use the gstreamer backend like soundjuicer does?

You really should report this to the soundjuicer or gstreamer guys IMO.
I can't comment on the banshee issue but if you are only concerned about
written musicbrainz tags I suggest to use any ripping tool that works
for you and "post-process" (tag) your files with picard afterwards.
