You'd probably have to file a libgpod bug for this one. I've no idea
why this might happen.

The 'hang' you see with the sync'ing screen was because there was a
last minute change to how libgpod handled enabling/disabling the
sync'ing screen and banshee didn't update in time. It's purely a
cosmetic issue and has already been fixed in git master. For the
podcast bug can you check out:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=630209 . If possible, can
you try git master to see if the issue is fixed there. I thought it
was fixed for 1.8.0 but maybe the problem is that specific devices
aren't handling the podcast flag the same way my iPhone does.
