I'm trying to get Banshee to recognize my N900 again. Installed the
daily build from yesterday (which doesn't listen to the multimedia

btw) and put a .is_audio_player file on it again which was supposed
to
be obsolete since 1.6 iirc. With the .is_... file, Banshee reads the
N900's contents again, but it still believes it only supports WAV.
What can I do? In my eyes, this is a regression...

If you're referring to that you can't select other formats in the device
properties, you're probably missing some gstreamer elements to encode
that, the N900 profile is included in Banshee for some time now. And
works for me. There's one issue I sent a patch about that made Banshee
not transcode some files in uncommon formats [1].

See if `gst-inspect lame` returns anything - if not, you're missing the
'lame' plugin for gstreamer that does mp3 encoding.

You could also check out `banshee-1 --debug` and look for lines like
this one:

GStreamer pipeline does not run: audioconvert ! fluwmaenc bitrate=64000 vbr=false ! fluasfmux

It means that some of the plugins are unavailable (in above example it's
fluwmaenc and fluasfmux - Fluendo's WMA plugins).

Come to irc://#banshee irc freenode net if you need more help.

Cheers,

Thanks! That fixed MP3 support for me. I still have ogg in the .is_audio_player file and I'm transferring files now, so I cannot test if Ogg is in by default, too, but I hope so. It would be nice if Banshee would somehow recommend looking at the gstreamer plugins when detecting a N900 without MP3 in my opinion. Shall I simply file a wish about that or do you want to discuss it here?
