[Banshee-List] Banshee crashes 1-2 seconds into the first song I play.

I installed Banshee, 1.5.4 from the Banshee Team PPA.

However, Banshee crashes every time in the exact same way.  I start
Banshee, double-click a song to play, and it plays for 1-2 seconds.
Then silence.  If I try to skip to another track, the whole program
fades to gray and stays like that until I kill it.

(It's probably not a coincidence that Songbird crashes in the same
exact manner.)

Any advice on what's going on and how to get it going?
