If Steve wants to display different columns of information in the list view, I don't think putting things in Smart Playlists will work, because all playlists have to have the same columns as their parent category in Banshee. I agree that Smart Playlists seem like the appropriate long-term solution, though, if we can get playlists with independent list views in Banshee. There would also be benefits for the Music library; I could have a Recently Added playlist that displays the Date Added column, without needing to display this column in all of my other playlists. Developers, is this planned/doable/intentionally avoided?

If you have your movies separate from tv shows on the filesystem, just
create smart playlists with 'Location contains /Movies/' and 'Location
contains /TV Shows/' under the Video Library.
