Can the ipod-sharp-based addin work with this HALless backend somehow?

I don't know ipodsharp, but i'm going to say no. There are two reasons:
1) If you have HAL you're going to have to use ipod-sharp regardless.
2) If you have udev/gio you really want to use libgpod [1]

[1] Assuming I (and others) spend another 5-10 days bringing the libgpod based binding up to feature parity with the podsleuth based plugin :)
