These proposed designs aren't really that much different then the current set up. But it's a good start I guess.

I actually kind of like this particular one, with one exception: putting the
volume in the centre seems weird. I'd actually suggest shifting the search box a
little inner and shoving the volume icon (no slider for volume) there.
