Re: [Banshee-List] how to systematically correct bad metadata

I'm trying to figure out how to fix bad metadata imported by banshee.
I've imported several hundred CDs, and with several dozen of them the
metadata that banshee found is screwed up.  Sometimes the track name
field contains both the track name and the artist name, sometimes the
artist name field contains the album name, or sometimes it's screwy in
other ways.  I know that I can use the track editor to make changes to
the metadata from within banshee, but in many cases the kind of change
I'd like to make is one that has to be done individually for each
track, which would be very tedious, since there are hundreds of tracks
involved.  For example, removing the artist name from the track name
field and inserting it into the artist name field.  Is there a way
that I can tell banshee to dump its metadata for certain tracks/albums
to a file that I can edit outside of banshee (e.g. with a program that
I'd write), and then re-import it?

I presume I could also write a program that uses sqlite3 to modify the
banshee database directly, but I'm a little hesitant to do that
without having a better understanding of the schema.  Is there a place
where I can find out more info about the schema?

Or, if anyone has other suggestions about how to systematically
modify banshee's metadata, I'd love to hear them!  Thanks!

It sounds like a task that would be well suited for the metadata fixup extension
