Hi Nyall,
Thanks for your response. Requested info is below.
Device: Samsung SGH-F310. 
mtp-albums: Reports albums on the device correctly. Running it first has the
same result as running mtp-detect first: Banshee loads correctly but does
not recognise any content / directories on the device.
Gnomad2: There isn't a binary available for SLE 11.0 but I can try to get it
working if it is necessary (some time tomorrow).
