Perhaps this option would be better to make it possible for
telepathy-butterfly, telepathy-idle, telepathy-haze...

You are right, Telepathy provides an interface called SimplePresence and also via MissionControl with method SetPresence that could be used for all accounts.  But, actually, I have been advised not to go about doing it that way.  The Telepathy crew are planning to provide a new interface called Usertune at some point in the near future.  So, I could either just go ahead and implement it the Presence way (even though the presence is not intended for this), or not do it at all until the usertune interface is available.

Also, related to my previous post, this project will probably require exporting some new D-bus interfaces.  As, the SourceManager object may provide methods that should not be allowed remote access.  Of course, the interfaces to export kind of depend on how the UI is to be designed as well.
