The error is caused by a missing mono compiler, or because the mono
compiler was not found.
The problem should be reported by "./configure". This was a bug with
0.4.2 and it has been fixed in svn.
After installing the appropriate package, you'll to run ./configure
again.

By the way, it's probably better to the compilation in another directory
that is not under ~/.config.

I also made a binary release of the extension, it should also work with
banshee 1.4.2 :
http://banshee-unofficial-plugins.googlecode.com/files/banshee-alarm-extension-0.4.2.zip
Just copy the .dll file to the folder ~/.config/banshee-1/addins (create
the folder if it's not there).

That would indeed be nice, but you'll have to find a packager kind
enough to do it. I'm not running Ubuntu, so I can't help with that.
