Upon further testing, it appears that Banshee does work in Xv with and without compiz.  When the video first starts playing, I see the first frame or two flicker on the screen, then nothing.  I can get the video to playback just fine after this if I simply move the Banshee window at least one pixel.  From then on, that video will play fine.  I need to move the Banshee window for each video that starts playing.

I've just installed SLED 11 and updated to the packman gstreamer packages.  Totem-gstreamer plays all of my videos fine, both with and without compiz.  Banshee does not play the videos (black screen, audio is fine) with or without compiz. I need to change gstreamer to "No Xv" for Banshee to work.  Since both use the gstreamer backend, and totem works, it seems to point to an issue with Banshee (correct me if I'm wrong).  What must I do to get Banshee to play videos like totem?
