There are some problems with the old code, at least for me; see Gnome
Bug #527788, "Could not fetch metadata for CD":
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527788
For example, I've reported previously that, in ripping my CD collection
with Banshee 1.4.2, the metadata for about 30% of my CDs didn't get
fetched, even though it exists in MusicBrainz. Those CDs are currently
sitting in a big stack awaiting a fix so that they can added to my music
library :-).
There is apparently some new MusicBrainz code available, which hasn't
yet been integrated with Banshee, pending, as I understand it, the
resolution of some release and packaging issues. If you are keen to get
MusicBrainz integration going, you might want to consider working on
this problem first (see the aforementioned bug report for more
information). I'd be happy to test any new code using my stack of
"problem CDs".
BTW, as a workaround for my problem CDs, is there any way to rip the CDs
using some other program that successfully fetches the metadata, and
then add them, with metadata, to my music library (without having to
enter the data by hand)?
