We develop Banshee generally following and requiring the latest and greatest MonoDevelop, typically following their trunk. 

As we try to move towards building on other platforms we find following MD this closely to be a requirement until their features are more on par and compatible with Visual Studio. 

They're working hard and getting there quickly, but unfortunately it means that typically the MD that ships with your distribution is not going to work with our project files :)

It will indeed be nice in a year from now when we can just depend on a stable and released version of MD.
