I logged a bug about this:

Basically I think there should be an option that you can enable so that
podcasts will be deleted after a certain length of time, probably depending
on if they had been listened to or not.
Although I do occasionally listen to podcasts more than once, I usually only
listen to them once. For me, automatic deletion after a certain length of
time is the desirable behaviour.
Of course, everything should be optional, so that everyone can have the
behaviour they want.
