Hey there,
Long time Gentoo + Banshee user (+devel). Classic Gentoo upgrading
stories typically include library compatibility issues, and this isn't
one. You'd get horrible errors while building, if so. I've been
running Banshee trunk on Gentoo (w/ a whole variety of
librarires...gnome 2.16 and 2.18, regularly upgraded gstreamer, etc).
Never had a problem. I actually just wiped off my development install
of Banshee and friends, and installed Banshee from portage and it works
fine for me. So you can rule out the average Gentoo blame :)
Can you read up on debugging Banshee
(http://www.banshee-project.org/Debugging ) - most notably, running in
--debug mode and perhaps using --trace (see the Mono debugging guide for
full usage). Banshee is likely outputting *something* to the console if
gstreamer is failing. If not, it's likely that your gst config has been
munged, or you've got a faulty compile of some gst library. Feel free
to try a 'strace -p `pidof banshee`' and see what Banshee is doing once
it's crashed.
Also, is Banshee consuming 100% of cpu, or just frozen waiting on
something?
Cheers,
Patrick
