It's most likely that at some point you either didn't specify /usr or
used /usr/local yourself on a previous attempt by mistake depending on
the script (didn't check).
In general, /usr is for packages you install from Ubuntu and
/usr/local is for packages you build yourself but it's really up to
you. I always install my "official" anything to /usr and test versions
to /usr/local
