So is it possible to separate one big file into some small tracks and
playback them in a gapless fashion? I though there was some
limitations of the mp3 format, but it was just my thoughs, not yet
proved. Something like "in a frame based format you should always play
the entire frame, even if it's the last frame of the file and contains
mostly silence ". Am I right about this? And is there a workaround for
a smooth playback without gaps? Maybe another format, maybe something
else...
Ogg Vorbis supports this much better. When possible, use it. (Of
course, ironically, RB/Banshee and my music player don't support
gapless playback... but that's a different story. And many players
don't support these formats; but more do, and there's always the
Rockbox firmware for many popular players....
Anyhow, if you're stuck with MP3 for whatever reason, there are
"workarounds", but it's up to the player at that point. I know XMMS
has a plugin for it, but I hate that program. MPD also works, IIRC.
Beyond that, I'm not sure; I avoid MP3s as much as possible.
