This is an awesome patch and a good start. I tested your updated version
and it worked pretty well, however, I noticed it consumes a ton of
memory over time. I'll have to test again and confirm this however.

I'll do a full code review when I get some more time, but yes, others
should really give this patch a try. I'd like to see it in for 0.11.5
(before mid Jan).
