As I mentioned in an earlier discussion, building balsa with pthread  
support and linking against a non-pthread aware version of gpgme (i.e.  
libgpgme instead of libgpgme-phtread) *may* cause such problems. This  
doesn't mean that all the rest of balsa's threading stuff is bullet-proof,  
though... ;-))
