Your current approach is the perfect way: one task, one tool, and your
tool not only works with balsa but any other mailer. However, how do you
know how old a mail is without sending TOP <nr> 1 for each mail on the
server? Track the date alongside the UID may be a solution -- but it
looks as though balsa did not use the UIDL command of the POP3 protocol.
I'm still killing my old mail with mutt every other week (local on the
server), and I'm comfortable with that even after three years. Not an
option without shell access, of course.
