No, it should not be to difficult _now_. The only non-automatic part is to 
make sure pressing the address book button next to the address fields work 
properly. This code (see balsa_address_book_get_recipients()) used to use 
some acrobatic widget hierarchy traversing but this ugly part was gone 
last time I checked.
