Be sure that you have a good regex to "define" what a quote is. I'm
using:

^(([ \t])*[|>:}#])

This can be changed in Settings --> Preferences --> Mail Options -->
Incoming

Works like a champ for me <under Mandrake 8.0 with no ximian stuff>
