Thinking a bit more about this.

If the IMAP server has the LOGINDISABLED capability, it is most likely because
it supports SSL/TLS. However the only way it can know its using SSL/TLS
is because it negotiated the connection. Since the tunnel is external to the
server it cannot know that an SSL/TLS connection is in use. Therefore it
advertises LOGINDISABLED and is alos likely to offer the STARTTLS extension too.

Tunnels are icky.
