kgcc is usually an older version of gcc (around 2.7.2.3 erata) which they
include to compile the Linux kernel, hence the 'k'. It's generally
considered a "safer" compiler, although it has been known to incorrectly
compile code.

Some older kernel versions will require gcc <= 2.7.2.3 to compile
correctly,
newer kernel versions *should* compile fine with egcs/gcc-2.95.x. If your
using gcc-2.96 or gcc-2.97, then your on your own so to speak, since they
are both experimental versions.
