no more printing!

I am using gnome-libs 1.2.4 (version supplied by gnome-config) and I have
gnome-print 0.2 installed. However, after compiling balsa 1.0pre2 I have
lost the ability to print or preview prints.
When I ran the configure script, it has alerted about this:

checking for GNOME-PRINT - version >= 0.20.0... Unknown library `print'
Unknown library `print'
no
*** Could not run GNOME-PRINT test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for
the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GNOME-PRINT was
incorrectly installed
*** or that you have moved GNOME-PRINT since it was installed. In the
latter case, you
*** may want to edit the gnome-config script: /usr/bin/gnome-config

However, although I don't seem to find gnome-print anywhere on my system, i
cannot install gnome-print from the original rpm package, since rpm tells
me it is already installed. I tried doing an 'rpm -ivh --force' on
gnome-print to install it, but after that the configure script kept failing
at gnome-print (yes i deleted the config.cache file).

Any ideas?
