I guess, we should add this one to FAQ :-).

your comilation errors are related to flock function. Some Solaris
users/experts told me that Sun's BSD compatibility is not 100% and one should
rather use fcntl. You can try to configure balsa with

./configure --disable-flock --enable-fnctl

(OTOH, I wonder if it would be safe to let the configure detect this
case and handle it).
