I like Darron's initial ideas. I couple of things that I would like to
add/reply to:

Christian Hagemeier [chagemei@zpr.uni-koeln.de] mentioned that he had
emailed "Stuart Parmenter (main balsa-programmer) to know if he is still
interested in bringing balsa-coding up to speed." Any response yet
Christian?
Miguel de Icaza [miguel@nuclecu.unam.mx], Gnome leader extraordinaire :-),
mentioned in one of his posts from April 6th that:

other

My take-away from this and some the messages that have come across the balsa
and gnome lists is that Miguel would support renewed interest and effort in
the balsa project.
With regard to the Balsa feature set, I would love to see some kind of
linking between the Gnome apps (this may already be part of the Gnome specs,
I'm not sure 'cuz I'm new around here ;-) ). For example, I think Balsa
should be able to use the Gnome PIM for email address lookups as well as a
basic lookup table within Balsa. Let's NOT make Balsa an all-in-one app like
MS Outlook. I believe STRONGLY in separate programs but it would be nice if
they could read each other's data.
