Re: [Fwd: Fwd: Automator from MacOS X]

Dear all,

After watching this video, I must say that I'm impressed by the capabilities of Automator. And it seems to have a huge number of possible actions available.

I would like to list here what existing piece of software I think we can already use to make some of the Automator's features in addition to aTomato :

* Mathusalem (one of the last google summer of code project) : This project can be useful to keep track of the scripts executed in background

http://tw.apinc.org/weblog/tag/mathusalem

* Nautilus-actions (I'm the maintainer) : To make the "Set as plugin in nautilus" feature. I will try to export a DBus function to import an action to it. An action for nautilus-actions could also be created and delivered with aTomato to add the "Create new workflow" option in Nautilus contextual menu.

* S-Flux: As said in a previous mail could be useful for its implementation of an action description file format in XML.

* Maybe gnome-db for the connection to databases ??

* All the main Gnome Desktop software (and others) for the exportation of their capabilities as actions available in aTomato (like does Finder, iPhoto, etc with Automator). IMHO, DBus will probably be a good choice for this. But it's up to each project maintainer to choose what they prefer or fit best...

* Do you think of any other useful project that can be used too ?

Best Regards,

Fred

Hey Rodrigo,

I sent this to Federico originally, and he told me to forward it to you.

Will you be coming to Boston next week?

Duncan.

Hey Federico,

I just saw your post about the sysadmin's needs for GNOME.

I found this interesting video here about the Automator thing with MacOS X:

I wonder if someone similar to do can be replicated using the accessibility framework? I can see this as being very useful for sysadmins.

Duncan.
