Dear
Pockey, Emily, and others in the Committee,
The COSCUP Team is happy to inform you that Mark Shuttleworth, the
founder of Canonical, has agreed to come and give a keynote speech. We
believe his presence will give a big boost to the joint conference!
We
started to invite him to COSCUP back in April. He accepted our
invitation on May 14 and made his itinerary to stay one day for the
conference. The topic of his talk remains to be confirmed. Based on his
keynote speech in the Ubuntu Developer Summit on May 10 (youtube link
at [1]), we believe his talk will be about Unity and Ubuntu Light [2],
which works with GNOME and sounds like a great topic for a keynote of
the joint conference.
We are in
the process of securing sponsorship with Canonical, too. We'll update
on the progress once we know more.
We agreed
that there will be 3 or 4 keynotes for the joint conference in the last
IRC meeting. Nokia will take one slot as a diamond sponsor. The COSCUP
Team has secured Charles McCathieNevile [3] of W3C fame for a keynote
on web related technology, too. We'd like to give Mark Shuttleworth as the 3rd
keynote. Your comments are welcome.
By the way, with the netbook industry heavyweights in Taipei, Mark
Shuttleworth mentioned Taipei in the first minutes of his UDS keynote.
The potential to create a great program on open mobile this year in
Taipei is enormous!
