Introduction: Shane Martin Coughlan

Dear all

My name is Shane Coughlan. Emily Chen has kindly introduced me to this list
and I hope to contribute to GNOME.Asia activities over the coming months and
years.

My background is in political science. I'm a specialist in security policy
with a particular focus on cybernetic warfare. In Free Software I have been
involved with various European community and business activities. In 2006 I
founded Free Software Foundation Europe's legal department and built the
European Legal Network, a private network of professionals that works on
solving real-life problems for the growth of the eco-system. This network has
grown to 205 members across 27 countries and 4 continents.

In May 2009 I moved to Japan to get married. I am now based in Takamatsu city
on the island of Shikoku and I run my own consultancy company from there. I
remain a general assembly member of Free Software Foundation Europe and I act
as the Asia Representative for OpenForum Europe, an NGO explaining the
importance of fair market access, open standards and FOSS to European policy-
makers.

Over the years I have been involved with various projects including FreeDOS,
Enigmail and SELinux Policy Editor. I'm a GNOME desktop user (I use KDE 4 as
well), and I'm a big fan of sensible usability.

My main skills are in dealing with business people and lawyers, doing project
planning, developing documents related to business processes (business plans,
process outlines etc), handling all types of negotiation, and taking care of
people management.

Regards

Shane
