To test if we only need one .desktop file, you just need to log on
GNOME, then on KDE and then on XFCE4 to see if trackerd starts
automatically each time and if there is not any duplicate entry in
menus.
I already did test it with both GNOME and KDE on Fedora rawhide, and
its okay with the one desktop file (only that the same file has to be
install in 2 places, /etc/xdg/autostart for GNOME and
/usr/share/autostart for KDE).


About the patch, I dislike to see Makefile.in files patched. In my
opinion, these files are generated by ./autogen (automake to be more
precise) and they should stay generated...

The Makefile.in patch is specifically for the rpm spec file, the other
patch for cvs patched Makefile.am
