Will,

I believe you misread, the new platform is called Discourse and not
Discord, the same features Mailman had can be found in Discourse as well
but you get all the web ui and associated features on top. With little to
no customization on categories/tags you want to follow you can then treat
Discourse as a plain mailing list. There's no need to leave or look for
another place to host the orca-list mailing list, although I won't force
you to stay around but I'd appreciate if you could at least give Discourse
a try.

You are quite right -- I did misread your message. Thank you for the correction.

If it's another mailing list, then all that needed to happen is current subscribers would be moved to the new
mailing list. (And probably there would be two archives, one for the old and new mailing lists.)

No one asked for a web forum -- they're almost always cumbersome and it takes work to have messages show up
in my inbox, which is what currently happens without any work beyond subscribing to the list.

I don't always know what messages from the orca mailing list I want to read. As it currently stands, I can
look at threads and figure out if they interest me, because messages show up in my inbox. And I'm able to
process things from there. This is convenient since I am already checking email. You're now breaking that and
adding to the work I have to do.
