Hi.  On my system, the title is replaced by the name of the remote machine.  Check the title and command tab in your current
profile for gnome-terminal.  In the combo box for dynamically set title, I hav replaces initial title as the default.
This has worked for me when I still ran Gnome 2.18 as well as in Gnome 2.20.
