Re: [orca-list] Perhaps I'm dense, but ...

Hi Steve.

BTW Joannie, when will your cut/paste patches be applied permenantly
to Orca? if they already have, then I appologize for the dumb
question.:)

No such thing as a dumb question.

This was Will's most recent comment on the bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513764#c4

I think we're too late in the GNOME 2.22 cycle to address this one well. The
problem I have is that there is support already in GNOME to allow users to
copy/paste text from labels. For an example of this, run the "Dialog and
Message Boxes" demo of gtk-demo and select the "Message Dialog" button. This
will bring up a window where you can tab to, navigate (by caret), select (and
copy the selection) of the labels. A more generalized solution like this can
also be useful to all sorts of people.

So, I wonder if we might want to just consider pushing for F7 type support in
dialogs to enable adding labels in the tab order and also making them
navigable/selectable?

I'm on the fence, however, because I wonder about the more common (and more
specialized) problem that arises, which is copy/paste from a terminal window.
F7 wouldn't support that, but this patch would.

Thoughts?

So it's definitely not looking like something for this release. And it
looks like something which we (as a community) need to decide what best
suits our (the community as a whole's) needs, both now and in the long
run. On the one hand, we've got a solution for Orca -- though it might
could use some refinement. On the other hand, perhaps we can convince
the larger GNOME community to add functionality which would benefit all
users (including those who happen to use Orca). I also recall one or
two folks (Lorenzo I think was one) stating on the list that this would
be their preference.

HTH.
