Re: [orca-list] Braille in Orca

Hi Fredrik:

It took me a while to understand just what you were doing, but I think I understand what's going on: you're attempting to access web content using the flat review keys.

Instead of using flat review, which was primarily developed as a fallback mechanism for accessing ill-behaved applications, I'd highly recommend that you navigate content using the same keyboard navigation techniques that sighted users use. You can enable caret navigation in Firefox by pressing the F7 key.

If you've tried caret navigation and still think you'd be more efficient using flat review, be advised that flat review and Gecko have issues. Here's the related bugs:

Having said that, if you have a specific web page where this is breaking for you, please give us the URL and the content where it seems to break. We might be able to make it work, but no promises, especially when dealing with really quirky content.

Hope this helps!

Will

Hi,

I have now made sure that all components in Gnome that have a 2.23.x version out are upgraded on my system. As some of you remember, I got a problem where the Braille display didn't update. I thought it was a time issue but very often it never updates. Turning on Braille monitor showed the following:

When moving between links in Firefox using tab, the Braille monitor is consistent with the display, it doesn't update. However, the window with red border, showing what Orca sends, follows program focus fine.

Is this a known problem?

Fredrik
