BTW, I was wrong about the sudo apt-get. It ends up getting 1.15, which definitely will not work. Here's some commands to type after you've copied the 1.18 or better shared libraries to /usr/lib:
cd /usr/lib sudo rm libespeak.so libespeak.so.1 sudo ln -s libespeak.so.1.1.18 libespeak.so sudo ln -s libespeak.so.1.1.18 libespeak.so.1Then, rebuild/install gnome-speech and run 'test-speech' to see if eSpeak appears. It should hopefully work.

Hi.
I believe you will need to upgrade espeak to 1.19 before you can get the
gnome-speech espeak server to build. Hopefully, someone will correct me
if this wrong.
